IV. Committee updates

Trolley

Still looking into purchasing our own trolley/bus.

Ossie to bring information for cost of purchase, maintenance, insurance, driver pay, etc. to another meeting.

Need to schedule meeting of committee to share ideas for raffle to raise funds for 2012 trolley.

Andre no longer with Barry Chamber – will they still back us for raffle?

Media

Sean stated that he would have something for board to look at for upgraded website (gunlakebiz.com) by next meeting

He would also have something for board to look at for upgrade on other website by November meeting

Mistake made on year of membership plaques. Shows 2011 member, should be 2012. Sean said he’d take care of mistake. Will read 2011-2012 member.

Membership

Issue has arisen regarding those business who have no email address receiving memebership registration forms.

Hope and Rhonda both stated they have been calling businesses who have not registered and mailing registration forms to them via USPS.

Stated that some businesses actually need to have the form brought to them.

Will be holding a meeting before the end of the year regarding these issues.

Jim Linderman will speak with Weick’s Foodtown regarding renewing their memebership for 2012.

Kim Bedford printed membership forms and gave them to Mark Paradowski on Saturday, September 24th.

V. Paul Walker presented the idea of offering Cheryl McCue free membership.

Cheryl provides tax services for discounted price.

Vote to give Cheryl McCue free membership based on discounted cost – Yea (unanimous)

VI. GLBA will be establishing a Gun Lake Improvement committee

Committee to consist of Ossie Martinez, Thom Williams, and Chad and Jessica Kraai

There is already a Gun Lake Improvement Board.

Need a different name – “Gun Lake Beautification Committee”?

Suggested that GLBA members donate grasses, plants, etc. when splitting at home, use contests where it costs money to enter and give plaque to winner for best in show, etc. to fund it.

VII. GLBA Member Directory (Paul Walker)

What is the cost to print and laminate 250 one page directories roughly? $100

Sean stated we could use a higher quality brochure style material to print these so no lamination would be needed. Could probably get them printed this way for less than $100.

Paul will continue to work on getting this directory put together.

Motion to vote for using $100 to get directory going made by Jim Linderman, 2nd by Rhonda Parsons – Yea

VIII. Associate Membership (Chad Kraai)

Chad stated he knew people who would join if the cost was low enough – $25-$30

Reasoning for associate membership – out of town businesses working in the area need places to stay and eat while here.

The money would go to helping the GLBA with the area businesses.

Put application for associate membership on website or make it a box to check on existing application

Paul Walker motioned for a vote whether we wanted to add an associate membership – Jim Linderman suggested we table it until October meeting.

Nobody is against accepting associate memberships but need more information for benefits to the associate members to see if it’s feasible.

Sean stated he would access our existing member benefits and bring a listing of proposed benefits for associate members to next meeting.

IX. Support of amicus briefing?

Does the GLBA want to support the amicus briefing supporting the Gun Lake Tribe in its litigation against a lawsuit filed by David Patchak?

Called to a vote – Yea (unanimous)

X. Newsletter

It was decided in March after reviewing survey results that newletters would be sent out quarterly instead of monthly.

Sean will be putting together newsletters.

Sean suggested the idea that we send one out early announcing the changes to our websites.

XI. Emails

Jessica Kraai is continuing to check our emails.

XII. GLBA Dinner

Do we want to have a dinner this year like we have in past years?

The realization that many of the area associations don’t really know each other was brought up. Do we want to have a get together of all the different associations? Combine the GLPA, GLBA, etc.

Mark Paradowski suggested that we invite them to one of our meetings instead of having a formal dinner/meet & greet.

Paul Walker asked if we wanted to have this dinner/picnic at Inn at Mill Pond?

Mark Paradowski suggested we do our Christmas dinner at the casino this year.

The events committee will research where to have this year’s Christmas dinner and report to the board at next month’s meeting.

XIII. Paul wondered if the events committee would look into the triatholon idea.

XIV. Jim Linderman

Reported that the GLBA has 126 subscirbers for our monthly newsletters. Does the association want to send these out for the people who don’t live in the area?

Decided that we should get the website up and running before we make a descision on newsletters for out-of-towners.

XV. Presentation of Appreciation Plaque and Gift Certificate to Jim Linderman for his years of service.

XVI. Thom Williams suggested we promote summer-time at Gun Lake as a way to attract tourism.

XVII. Motion to adjourn made by Paul Walker at 7:30
